Hubba Hubba!

Firehouse Phoenix

Legs Up Blue

The cat has been out of the bag for a little while now that the extraordinary Kara La Fleur accepted a marvelous opportunity in San Fran. While we miss her terribly here, you lucky Californians now get to see her tease and toy her fabulous feathers and self across the stage!

The first of many shows will be at the ever tantalizing Hubba Hubba Revue on Monday, January 28th at the Uptown Club.  If I were *you* I’d go and see her before we steal her back to Phoenix.  Oh, and need I mention that there will be a bevy of other beauties to enjoy for the evening?

Color me envious.

Love and pinches,

Sable

Parting is Sweet Sorrow…

On January 19th, we will be saying farewell to Monstserland Bar & Grill at our monthly Thriller show.

While Monsterland was only “home” to BurlEscapades for the past few months we loved performing there both as burlesque artists, gogo dancers, and of course Visa loved DJ’ing there as DJ Con.

This unique club was a full service restaurant with shocking tasty eats and treats during the day, and a dark and creepy club at night decorated as a Haunted House 365 days a year.

Unfortunately, despite some major successes in the early Fall the owner is unable to keep the doors open at this time and is opting to either sell the club or close the doors permanently.  Sadly, it is looking like it will be the first option so we have to say thank you to all the folks we loved and adored there from bar staff to hosts to managers and of course the extra beloved security guys!

If you live in the Phoenix metro area,  you should most definitely join us for a celebration like the true end of the world next weekend with DJ Con and his gogo’s, special guest artists, and of course BurlEscapades dancing and teasing!

Much love to you Monsterland. We will miss you!

Mars Attacks!

So, I am sure you all remember back in the summer when I said we were shooting a fabulous music video with Voodoo Swing? Well, don’t hold your breath a second longer as it is here!

Our lovely Kara is the starlet of the short film, and if you keep your eyes wide you’ll see myself and Mia prancing around in the background as well (or even driving in my case).  You’d never know we nearly had our skirts up over our heads that day we were sweltering in the heat so! But being the consummate professionals we didn’t even show a ~bead~ of sweat, ahem.

Do show some love to the swing daddies themselves and check out this video!

Love and pinches,

~ Sable

Something Wicked This Way Comes…

So if you been paying attention you know that we will be at Monsterland again this Saturday for the Thriller event Visa hosts, but this time just a little teaser show to wet your appetite.  If you want more of those then you better come see us and let us know!

The ~much~ bigger news is that we want to officially announce that we have welcomed Kenya Swallow as our newest member in BurlEscapades.  Do stop in on her Bio and take a gander or even better come see her do her thing at Monsterland this Saturday!

Xxoo,

~ Sable

P.S. Oh, why not? Here is a sneak peek…

Chills & Thrills!

Well my devious ducklings, I have been downright neglectful as of late and so aim to remedy that tout suite! I do still owe a rendition of Mercy and Sable take on New Orleans, but feel I am so overdue at this point I’d rather just refer you to the lovely write-up Mercy has already provided Here!

October brought our (now) annual mischief with Romantasy Cabaret and as usual we had a brilliant time being a cast of characters for the Daringly Scary~Sexy show.  From the Bride of Frankenstein to a Black Swan ballerina to a Saucy Nurse.

However, our darling Vis~a~Vee also launched out as The Conductor returning to his musical roots as a DJ at Monsterland for a new event titled “Thriller”.   With an 80′s themed dance extravaganza, Mia & I joined in the fun go-go’ing and as I am sure you can see above we had an absolutely wonderful time (as did the audience!)

Missed the show? Well, I have excellent news for you! Thriller will be returning monthly every third Saturday at Monsterland and THIS Saturday (11/17)  is an extra special edition as BurlEscapades and Vavavoom (along with special guests!) will be performing a burlesque set to launch the evening.

I highly advise you not to miss out on any of the Thriller evenings, but most especially this one!

Love and pinches,

~ Sable

P.S. We will soon have an enticing little announcement for you that if you are clever you might see hints of already!  Come to the show Saturday and you might get a sneak peek.

Martians, VooDoo & Swing…

What do these three things all have in common?

Well, unless you were on another planet (like we were!) you probably heard a little whisper about Kara La Fleur and her back-up girls Sable & Mia starring in a music video!

The theme had a little something to do with the subject of this post due to the song: My Rockabilly Martian Gal by the (in)famous Voodoo Swing boys (psst, look at Leroy —>).

As you can likely see from our pictures, we had an amazing time and you should keep your eyes peeled for the release of the video on the Voodoo Swing page.

Until then…

Love and pinches!

BurlEscapades on the Big Screen!

…well, medium sized screen to start!

September 7th at 10pm, the film “Beautiful Women” will be premiering at the Film Bar in Phoenix featuring several interviews with our troupe as well as snippets from performances.  The filmmaker  Doug Proce of “No Froth Films” has put together an evocative look at burlesque from the standpoint of self-image, the media, empowerment and “neo”-feminism.  It really is a powerful tribute to women of the past and the now both.  The film has been entered into several regional film festivals and Doug may even consider it for national ones as well pending sponsors.

The entire experience has been engaging and thought provoking for us and in the below trailer you will see Kara and I speaking along those lines.  However, it was also a great deal of fun and features performances with the sizzling style that Ms. La Fleur embodies; the only phrase that can capture it rightfully is Ooo La La!

If you’d like to wave hello at Kara, Mia, Visa V and of course yours truly do come over for a visit at Film Bar on the 7th next month.  Perhaps if we are lucky Mercy’s busy show schedule may allow her to stop in as well!  Do get tickets soon though, my ducklings, as the venue has a limited capacity and the RSVP count has already neared it!

Love and pinches,

~ Sable

A sneak peek

Hullo, cats and kittens (and lions and tigers, oh my)!

Just a short little love note today, but as  promised we have a few things up our satiny sleeve and I wanted to give you all a little peek.

One of our recent shenanigans includes a photo shoot with the amazingly talented Jim from 2life photography last night.

The night included bullwhips, boas, and back-bends, and feathers, thigh-highs, and  satin gowns, but as well one particular BurlEscapades lady posing without much at all.

Alas, while our photog was talented he is not so magical that those photos are instantly available so instead for you I will provide this little candid shot that our beloved Mercy captured as we were getting ready (if you click on it and look carefully you can see how cleverly she managed all of four of us in the shot).

More to come!

Love and pinches,

~ Sable

Secrets, Lace and the Big Easy

Amazing news, sweethearts and sweet tarts!  Our beloved Mercy Beaucoup has been asked to grace New Orleans as a stage kitten for the “Bad Girls of Burlesque” and “Queen of Burlesque” shows during the New Orleans Burlesque Festival!

For those of you who are not intimately familiar with language ala burlesque: a stage kitten is a wildly attractive, mischievous yet helpful creature that assists the performing artists between acts from prop adjustments to rescuing costumes gone wild.  (Let me just say that in general, it involves quite a bit of a bending over to the audience while dressed in daringly scandalous costumes of their own!)

The festival is a huge national competition for burlesque artists across the world and is sponsored by the couture lingerie and stocking designer Secrets in Lace.  What that means, my dapper doves, is our beloved Mercy may well end up modeling a few of these pieces and be certain we will let you know if we get a sneak peek of any of her prints, just to tease you!

In the meanwhile, I’ve snatched a picture of her in honor of New Orleans Mardi Gras en masked and green!  I am sure if you are sweet there will be more tantalizing ones to come in September.

Love and pinches,

~ Sable
P.S.  New Orleans in September is something I never miss.  So expect posts to come of the adventures of Mercy & Sable vs. Nola to come!

Sable Switch Has Joined BurlEscapades!

BurlEscapades is proud to announce our newest kitten Sable Switch!  She hails from Phoenix Arizona and brings the heat and the spice to prove it.  With her smoldering dark looks, once you start watching her you won’t be able to look away.  You’ll see her joining us on stage this fall.  Congratulations to us all!

August is almost here!

It’s been a fun summer!  Here at BurlEscapades we’ve been busily working on next season’s performances, and we’re excited to announce that we’ve expanded to the San Francisco area as well.  You can count on seeing the same great dancers at our shows along with same exciting additions (our little kittens are growing up!) and we’ve been coming up with titillating new dances and costumes.  The next show coming up is August 18, with Romantasy Cabaret at Club Red in Tempe.  Come see us wiggle and tell them Kara sent you! ;)

Vegas Night at FatCat

We had a great night of dancing and live music at FatCat Ballroom this past Tuesday night, 4/10/12.  The band “Jump, Jive and Wail” played great music from the heyday of swingin’ Las Vegas, from when the Rat Pack (Frank, Dean, Sammy, etc.) ruled the strip and the airwaves, and we danced the night away to their smokin’ tunes.  There was a lot of beautiful Vegas themed dressing up – think Mad Men, Rat Pack, Jackie Kennedy, and some of our lovely BurlEscapades models strutted in a Vintage Vegas Fashion Show arranged by Jenny Kuller of Red Sadie Vintage.  On top of all that it was our dear friend Steve Conrad’s birthday!  So it was a great time with a fabulous guy who has been promoting/teaching Swing Dancing in Arizona for 17 years.  All that and cake too!
